Abstract

The physical entity of light enables the perception and understanding of architecture, including through its opposite, shadow. Self-cast, cast, and self-supporting shadows contribute to the comprehension of space and three-dimensional objects, emphasising real depths in isotropic architectural forms. What happens, however, in the case of anisotropic architecture, such as solid perspectives? Can the movement of the sun influence their perception, unveiling the illusory deception? To address these questions, we have explored the effects of light and shadow on the perspective windows of Palazzo Doria Pamphilj in Rome.
