This article highlights the theoretical contribution of Peter Nicholson to scientific advancement in the field of representation between the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In particular it emphasizes its original approach to projection, related to the building practice and an effective visualization.The research took as a basis its extensive treatises, so far poorly investigated, and other sources and historical documents.Finally, it tries to reconstruct the scientific and practical result of Nicholson's knowledge, by establishing the original and autonomous elements through a graphical and critical analysis
L’articolo evidenzia il contributo teorico di Nicholson al progresso scientifico, tra XVIII e XIX sec., nel campo del disegno. In particolare sottolinea il suo inedito approccio alla proiezione, legato alla pratica del costruire e alle esigenze di una efficace visualizzazione.La ricerca ha assunto come base la sua ampia trattatistica, fino ad oggi scarsamente indagata, e altre fonti storico-documentali.Si è cercato di ricostruire il portato scientifico-pratico delle conoscenze di Nicholson, stabilendo, attraverso un lavoro di analisi grafico-critica, gli elementi originali e autonomi.
