Drawing and visualization represent the main source of knowledge as wellas a signifi cant experience of communication and expression of mind’simages. Drawing is a stimulus to imagine and thinking, and it has to beconsidered as a process rather than as an end in itself.By means of graphic language, as a nonverbal thought, it is possible toexpose and demonstrate the tangible and, at the same time, to explorethe world with the mind’s eye, to become conscious of the real world, tridimensionaland structural, or to open one’s mind to a microcosm full ofpotential of each shape. From simple sketches to representation and graphic models, realized bycomputer-aided-design programs, the power of line helps to discover andfi nd, simultaneously, effect and cause. This paper exposes the fi rst results of a research work which will collect, record, compare and analyze the experience of creation through thedrawing, exploring and extrapolating together a series of representativeimages, from handmade drawings to those closely related to processesof computer aided geometric modeling, in an excursus that highlights thelinks and the peculiarities of distant, but closely related, categories.
