The third sector, also known as the nonprofit sector, encompasses organizations that operate independently from the government and the private sector. These organizations primarily focus on social, cultural, environmental, and community goals rather than profit. In the past three years, the topic of digital transformation has become increasingly relevant for virtually all nonprofit organizations, which have sought to address it through various initiatives. These efforts have targeted both internal dimensions—such as work processes, service development, communication, and evaluation—and external dimensions—such as service offerings, promotion, and delivery. We specifically analyze a call for proposals under the PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) titled “Social Digital” and the related digital project proposal by Società Umanitaria (a historic nonprofit organization founded in 1893 with the mission of promoting social welfare, education, and cultural development). This proposal aims to enhance the digital skills of employees, permanent collaborators, and volunteers through an innovative training program. The primary objective is to create a digital ecosystem that improves the effectiveness of the institution's social and cultural activities. The project stands out for its ability to combine technical digital training with a strong component of social inclusion and human skills development. Advanced technologies are employed for online learning and digital tools to optimize internal processes, with a particular focus on integrating new technologies in the fields of fashion, design, and craftsmanship. The creation of an e-learning platform, which can subsequently be offered to other nonprofit organizations (scalability and sharing) for training and specialization, is a key feature. This interactive educational platform utilizes AI to provide a personalized learning experience, tailored to the students' knowledge level and learning pace. Student support is provided via chatbots that respond to questions, offer educational materials, assist in navigating courses, coordinate courses, and send reminders and surveys. Additionally, VR/AR is used for specialized courses, and a mobile application is available for monitoring progress and communication. The studies, examples, and research we have conducted demonstrate that the synergy between people and technology has yielded excellent results in project development, communication, and education. These results are evident both in terms of optimizing routine processes and in achieving exceptional and beautiful outcomes.
